The positive role of SLS
With a membership that includes 75% of secondary headteachers and representation in over 90% of schools, SLS membership ensures that your voice and the voice of school leaders is heard throughout, within and at every level of Scottish education. SLS is an inclusive and supportive Association. We speak with an influential and respected voice which represents the interests the ever increasing number of members across the country.
The support role of SLS
Membership of SLS is more important than ever as Scottish Education embarks upon the most significant changes in school governance in a generation. Advice, support, information and training are all part of the services available to School Leadership teams. SLS develops policies, position statements and press comment on important educational issues as they affect Scottish secondary schools. SLS represents and promotes the interests of secondary senior management team members. The Association, in all forums represents the views of those who lead Scottish secondary schools and so influences decision making at local and national levels.
The influence of SLS
SLS membership includes experts in various fields and is represented on every major local and national educational body such as the General Teaching Council Scotland, Education Scotland and the Scottish Qualifications Authority. Our current full rates are:
- Headteachers – £37.20 per month
- Depute Headteachers – £28.65 per month
- Faculty Heads / Principal Teachers / Bursars / Business Managers – £21.10 per month

Increasingly, senior leaders are placed in situations, often at very short notice, where appropriate professional advice is essential to effective decision making.
